International Work Experience Program

The World Association of Master Chefs (WAMC) is pleased to announce the International Work Experience Program. As part of this program, WAMC is providing a dedicated service to our members with an aim to support our industry and its continual development.

This program is most suitable for young and highly skilled industry professionals including but not limited to Chefs, Food and Beverage Directors and Restaurant Managers (as well as other occupations high in demand) that have a keen interest in gaining valuable international work experience in the hospitality and related industries.

This program consists of opportunities for candidates to work and live internationally with their families in countries including but not limited to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom. Our program’s first season will focus on Australia and other locations will be available at intervals.

Candidates will be able to experience working and living in Australia with their spouse and dependent children through the subclass 400 temporary work short stay specialist visa for a maximum period of 3 to 6 months. Throughout the granted stay, candidates’ dependent children will also be exempted from public schooling tuition fees. There is no English requirement for this, however, candidates will need to be highly skilled with at least 3+ years full-time work experience with formal evidence.

If candidates desire to continue their work experience in Australia, there is an opportunity to transfer to the subclass 482 temporary skills shortage visa where an English requirement of IELTS 5555 or equivalent is required. This enables the candidate to continue working and living in Australia with their spouse and dependent children for up to four years. (Public schooling tuition fees are dependent on state and territory)

If candidates are looking to then obtain permanent residency in Australia, there is an opportunity to transfer to the subclass 186 employer nomination scheme visa if their employer is willing to provide nomination and they have worked for the nominating employer full time for at least 3 years. For this pathway, an English requirement of IELTS 6666 or equivalent is required.

*As a general guideline for interested candidates, the industry average annual income before tax is approximately AUD$62,500

Once this program has been released, you will be required to download and complete the application form and submit it along with your information, supporting documentation as well as a video introducing yourself and demonstrating your skills to info@wamc1950.com for an initial assessment.

All successful candidates at the executive chef level will have an opportunity to gain temporary short-term international work experience through the subclass 400 visa as part of this program.

However, if candidates are interested in obtaining permanent residency in Australia through this program, they must not be over 40 years of age at the time of grant of the subclass 400 visa and must have executive chef experience with evidence (e.g. employment contracts/payslips/reference letters).
