The standards we hold ourselves to.
Every WAMC member commits to a short code of conduct on joining. It applies in their kitchen, on the road representing the association, and online.
This is a growing document, and members are encouraged to refresh themselves with it periodically. The Code of Conduct applies in the kitchen, when representing the Association, and online.
It is binding on all members. Each member is responsible for understanding the Code and for reporting breaches by others.
The member pledge“I will uphold this code in my kitchen, when I carry the association's name, and online — and I will hold my fellow members to it too.”
Five areas of conduct.
-
1
Personal & professional behaviour
Members must perform their duties in a conscientious, competent and honest manner, consistent with the values of the Association. They treat others with respect, act fairly, and prevent unlawful discrimination. Bullying, violence, harassment and victimisation are prohibited. Members maintain a professional appearance and conduct themselves well in public settings, and their use of social media must not damage the Association's reputation through derogatory content or personal attacks. Members should not recruit others solely for medals or awards.
-
2
Accountability
Members must maintain the confidentiality of Association and personal information, using it only for legitimate duties. They keep proper records, use facilities and funds appropriately, and pursue skill development through Association training. All decisions require transparency and alignment with policies. Members are responsible for understanding this Code of Conduct and for reporting violations by others.
-
3
Conflicts of interest
Members must declare potential conflicts of interest and avoid accepting gifts that could influence decisions. They should prevent nepotism and manage conflicts according to Association procedures.
-
4
Safe environment
Members must perform their duties safely, following workplace health and safety policies. They should avoid unsafe practices and refrain from misusing alcohol or drugs while performing duties.
-
5
Other associations
Members may hold memberships elsewhere but should avoid promoting other organisations at WAMC events or wearing excessive external medals there. They should encourage inter-association cooperation and respect.
The Standards Panel.
Complaints under the code are heard by an independent Standards Panel of three senior members drawn from outside the parties' regions. The Panel rotates annually and is appointed by WAMC's leadership.
Outcomes range from a private finding (no further action), through written caution, restorative mentorship, suspension of membership, to expulsion in the most serious cases. Panel decisions can be appealed once to the owners.
Complaints are confidential by default. Findings are recorded in the Audit Log; identities are published only where a Panel has determined doing so is in the association's interest.
