Historic WAMC Service Excellence Awards Presented at Club Officer

On May 20th, 2026, Club Officer in Victoria, Australia became the setting for a truly memorable and historic occasion as Prof. Gaven Ferguson, Global President of the World Association of Master Chefs, accompanied by his wife Sara Ferguson and internationally renowned Master Chef Frank Fazio, presented the inaugural WAMC Service Excellence Awards in Australia.

The evening celebrated two exceptional front-of-house team members whose dedication to hospitality and guest service has earned them outstanding recognition within the industry. The award recipients were:

  • Olivia Garrity
  • Roche Espanillo

In a remarkable surprise orchestrated behind the scenes, Assistant Manager Shannon Gomes successfully kept news of the awards confidential from all staff members, informing only General Manager of Southside Racing Huss Dergham prior to the presentation.

During the evening, Prof. Ferguson stood before the gathered patrons and requested everyone’s attention. He introduced himself, explained the purpose of the visit, and spoke about the significance of the WAMC Service Excellence Awards and the high standards they represent within the hospitality and tourism sectors.

As the names of the award recipients were announced, the venue erupted into cheers and applause from patrons and staff alike, creating an atmosphere of pride and celebration throughout the club.

The moment was especially meaningful for award recipient Roche Espanillo, whose mother had worked at the club for many years and was present to witness her son receive this prestigious honour. The emotional occasion added a deeply personal touch to an already unforgettable evening.

The WAMC Service Excellence Award is presented in recognition of:

This landmark presentation marks the very first time these awards have been presented in Australia, highlighting Club Officer’s commitment to exceptional hospitality and the outstanding calibre of its staff.

“I am really excited that our staff have been presented with these awards. they are tow of the msot outstanding workers and greatly deserve this” Huss Dergham stated.

The event not only recognised two deserving individuals but also reinforced the importance of professionalism, dedication, and excellence in customer service across the hospitality industry.
