    Seventy-fifth anniversary

    The association marks its 75th year with a global investiture and the launch of a renewed digital home for members.

    Seventy-five years on, WAMC connects master chefs across every inhabited continent.

    WAMC partner with Pearsons for Culinary Certificate

    WAMC works with Certiport to establish the first CULINARY FOUNDATIONS CERTIFICATION in the mix of Certifictes offered at a global level

    As part of the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Careers program, the Culinary Foundations certification exam is endorsed by the World Associations of Master Chefs (WAMC), a global network of professionals who push innovation and creativity in food service. This course empowers learners to be confident in professional kitchens, immediately start working, and be more qualified for advanced opportunities.

    Endorsed Business Accreditation (EBA)

    The EBA programme launches, recognising restaurants and culinary businesses that meet WAMC’s standards of practice.

    EBA assessment is carried out by accredited WAMC assessors against a published standard.

    50-country milestone

    WAMC reaches 50 represented countries with the founding of the Reykjavík chapter.

    Reykjavík’s founding capped a decade of rapid international growth.

    Partum Concilio established

    The association’s highest honour is created to recognise members whose lifetime contributions have shaped the trade.

    Partum Concilio is conferred rarely and by invitation of the association’s leadership.

    New Global President announced

    Pro Gaven Ferguson becomes as the new Global President

    In 2016, Professor Gaven Ferguson was appointed Global President of the World Association of Master Chefs, marking a significant milestone in his international leadership career. In this role, he became responsible for supporting the Association’s global direction, promoting professional standards, strengthening international relationships, and helping advance education, recognition, and excellence across the culinary and hospitality industries.

    Chef Training facility in Shenzhen

    Sunly Lo and Martin Yan Partner on new Training centre

    Chairman Sunly Kwong Lo meets with several celebrity chefs and develoepd a new Chef Training facility in Shenzhen. Mr Lo is invited to attend as a special guest, to a function hosted by the Vocational Training Council (VTC, www.vtc.edu.hk), Hong Kong. 

    In addition to their ongoing work, WAMC continue to operate and oversee several other institutions such as the International Culinary and Hospitality Association (ICHA), the International Wine Academy (IWA), and most importantly the World Master Chef Group.

    WAMC rolls ICHA and IWA into their mix

    International Culinary and Hospitality Association (ICHA) and the International Wine Academy (IWA) are rolled into WAMC

    Mr Lo makes the decision to combine the ICHA and the IWA into one organisation called the World Association of Master Chefs and locate in Australia  For the next two years, several key members continued to grow the hospitality skills programs and competitions.

    First International invite as group

    Key Chefs had previously been invited as guests to a function hosted by the Vocational Training Council in Hong Kong. 

    Key Chefs had previously been invited as guests to a function hosted by the Vocational Training Council in Hong Kong. Through discussion and a lot of late nights, the group established a Culinary Arts Centre in China. Several Chefs moved on to celebrity careers around the world. 

  11. Membre 1978

    Master Chef investiture

    The Master Chef title is formalised, with the first investiture ceremony held at Hôtel de Ville, Geneva.

    The Master Chef title remains WAMC’s highest professional grade, conferred only by investiture.
  12. Chapitre 1962

    First chapter outside Australia

    Buenos Aires becomes WAMC’s first South American chapter, followed by Tokyo (1964) and Shanghai (1966).

    By the end of the decade WAMC had a presence on four continents.

    Founded in Brisbane Australia

    Seven chefs convene to formalise an international fellowship "for the practitioners of our profession, by our profession."

    On the 4th September 1950, a small group of respected chefs from around the country came together to form a group dedicated to promoting the development and exchange of global hospitality culture. This group originally called the “World Master Chef Group” had a deep sense of fellowship and supported the essence of international hospitality culture in Australia.
