Mentorship

Become a Certified WAMC Mentor. Our new mentorship programme pairs experienced members with those earlier in their careers, and certified mentors earn the Mentor badge in recognition of their service.

The programme

The programme

WAMC Mentorship is a structured pairing of seasoned chefs with members building their craft and careers — passing on technique, judgement and professional standards the way our profession always has: chef to chef.

It is for any member who wants to grow under the guidance of someone who has walked the path before them, and for accomplished chefs ready to give back. Mentors and mentees set their own rhythm of conversations, kitchen time and goals, supported by a light framework from the association so the relationship stays focused and accountable.

The pathway

Becoming a certified mentor

Certification recognises the experience and commitment a mentor brings, and confers the Mentor badge on their WAMC profile.

Who can apply

Members in good standing with substantial professional experience and a genuine desire to develop others. A track record of craft and leadership matters more than any single grade or title.

The commitment

Mentors commit to regular contact with their mentee over an agreed period — typically a number of conversations and, where possible, time together in the kitchen. The pace is flexible, but consistency is expected.

Certification

Applicants complete a short orientation covering mentoring practice, boundaries and the association's standards of conduct, then are accredited as a Certified WAMC Mentor.

Recognition & badge

Certified mentors earn the Mentor badge, displayed on their profile and counted toward their record of service to the association and the wider profession.
